This position typically reports to senior management and is responsible for assisting in the company's legislative and regulatory affairs with elected officials and government officials in policy and regulatory agencies. Ensures the policy and regulatory environment supports the company's priorities. Provides leadership and guidance in determining strategic direction on potential opportunities based on the U.S. government policy and regulatory landscape, national security priorities, and other policy guidance - to include technology security and foreign disclosure policies and processes Directs and works with designated trade and business associations, advocacy groups on political, legislative and regulatory issues of importance to the company. Typically accomplishes objectives through subordinate management and/or professionals. Represents the organization(s) with the U.S. government, think tanks, trade associations, customers and potential customers, both domestic and/or foreign, and business and non- business communities on significant matters. Provides support in communicating the corporate image through researching, writing and editing, press releases, white papers, speeches, briefings, internal communications, online communications and other related documents. The position is responsible for influencing public opinion, corporate image, and policy decisions through strategic communications activities. Develops, selects, and reviews editorials and special articles. Develops, recommends, and maintains editorial policy and procedure. Gathers and analyzes data to obtain items for publication and to verify facts; assigns or approves artwork. Manages social media, website, press releases and the production and distribution of material.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under direction of Strategic Development leadership, oversee, direct, shape, and influence policy and regulatory affairs - and support legislative affairs - activities to ensure business and financial objectives are attained.
  • Assist in representing the company to the executive branch to advance company priorities; educate USG regulatory and policy personnel about company capabilities, pursuits, and priorities.
  • Under direction of Strategic Development leadership, will provide leadership and strategic direction to senior leadership and colleagues in P&Ls on potential opportunities and the interaction with executive branch policies, initiatives and procedures.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership and P&Ls on exportability strategies to ensure support of the government and other regulatory agencies.
  • Under direction of Strategic Development leadership, oversee the development of policies; determine priorities and develop strategies to achieve them while remaining consistent with established goals and metrics.
  • Direct the utilization of think tanks, industry groups, coalitions and trade associations.
  • Works closely and in conjunction with the legislative liaison lead in Washington DC.
  • The position may have direct reports that include positions such as marketing and communication specialist(s).

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors or Masters in international affairs, political science, or business administration or a related field and twelve or more years of progressively complex experience in domestic and/or foreign sales activities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate a detailed and extensive expertise and application of policy, legislative and regulatory principles and concepts, and practice as well as comprehensive project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Must demonstrate extensive knowledge and of domestic and/or international regulations and policies.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve unusually complex problems; and serve as spokesperson on projects.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government and regulatory officials.
