Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
This position is responsible for managing the planning, preparation, issue, control and coordination of production schedules and material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of materials. Manages work in progress and material availability and resolves complex problems to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Ensures material supply and schedule, shop load and inventory requirements are met. Recommends modifications to operating policies when needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides leadership and directs the daily activities of assigned staff.
- Develop and manage production schedules to meet customer demand and delivery targets.
- Ensures the efficient use of resources through the continuous planning, scheduling and expediting of labor and material.
- Report production performance metrics and develop action plans to meet targets.
- Analyzes and processes work orders, sales orders, purchase requisitions and material transactions for disposition.
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, constraints, and resource conflicts.
- Oversees and coordinates physical movement of materials.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams to align planning activities.
- Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflow.
- Monitor composite material inventory levels and usage to prevent shortages, shelf life or overstock situations.
- Represents the department with internal and external representatives while coordinating interdepartmental activity.
- Interprets and executes policies and procedures. May recommend modifications to operating policies.
- Participates in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to ensure the availability of the required professional talent.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Additional functions other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires education or formal training equivalent to the completion of an associate's degree and nine or more years of progressive experience in production control. Additional professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Must demonstrate a detailed working knowledge and understanding of production control services principles, concepts, regulations and practices, and must have leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and milestones.
- Must possess the ability to resolve complex issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and present findings.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees.
- Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
- Strong understanding of composite manufacturing processes, including ply layup, curing, trimming, and assembly.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (preferably SAP).
- Experience in aerospace quality standards and regulatory compliance.
- Proficient in production scheduling, capacity planning, and workflow optimization.
- Proven knowledge of Heijunka principles to level production flow, minimize inventory fluctuations, and reduce uneven workloads (mura) across the shop floor.
- Hands-on experience with visual planning tools (Heijunka boards, load charts, kanban systems).
- Ability to thrive in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Related professional certifications (e.g., CPIM, CSCP), PMP, or Lean Six Sigma.
- Expertise with Microsoft Power BI for production analytics.
Salary:$81,080 - $141,650
