Job Summary We currently have an exciting opportunity within our corporate Facilities group as a Facilities Operations Coordinator, based in the San Diego, California region. Under minimal supervision, The Facilities Operations Coordinator serves as a key liaison for the facilities operations department, ensuring seamless facilities operations across critical areas of the San Diego Campus. This role is responsible for overseeing daily inspections, vendor coordination, regulatory compliance, and maintenance logistics while actively supporting project implementation and facility audits. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to upholding operational excellence. This position uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications, and advanced computer skills in performance of job. This position participates in and attends various department/division/work center meetings, seminars, training, and work-related events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts daily inspection walks of high-priority locations.
  • Acts as Facilities point of contact for internal audits, ensuring alignment with compliance protocols and operational standards.
  • Acts as liaison for Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and regulatory matters, addressing concerns and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Oversees and coordinates vendor activities throughout the campus, ensuring timely execution of maintenance services and repairs.
  • Develops and supports logistical planning for maintenance projects, minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Participates in design review and OAC meetings, providing insights and feedback on facility-related challenges and project considerations.
  • Collaborates with operations and project managers to ensure smooth execution of construction and renovation projects.
  • Provides logistical support for construction work, offering recommendations to enhance efficiency and minimize campus impact.
  • Evaluates post-construction conditions and delivers feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Assists with asset tagging and verification processes, ensuring accurate tracking of facility resources.
  • Primary point of contact for critical maintenance events, providing real-time updates to senior leadership during repairs and incident mitigation.
  • Works directly with the Facilities Operations Senior Manager to ensure continuity of operations and emergency response coordination.
  • Practices strategic collaboration & budgetary alignment.
  • Establishes a strong working relationship with the Campus Facility Portfolio Manager (FPM) to align operational objectives with budgetary constraints.
  • Supports campus-wide facilities initiatives, balancing service excellence with cost-efficiency.
  • Reports to the Torrey Pines Operations Senior Manager and collaborates closely with the Campus FPM.
  • Engages with cross-functional teams, vendors, and regulatory bodies to uphold campus standards and operational efficiency.
  • Requires regular campus-wide inspections and on-site presence during critical maintenance events.
  • Advanced-level creative problem-solving skills required.
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with co-workers, managers, vendors, or contractors sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give or receive work direction.
  • Coordinates job activities between work requestor, facilities maintenance staff, or/and contractor personnel.
  • Intermediate to strong level of understanding and experience in the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, carpet care, appliance repair, roofing.
  • Expert skills regarding the operation of small hand and electrical tools.
  • Understands and follows safe work practices for all trades, including but not limited to: Lockout Tag-out, Confined Space Entry, use of hazardous chemicals, use of Personal Protective equipment, ladder safety, and working from elevated surfaces.
  • Coordinates and oversees outside vendors; Directs plumbing, roofing, mechanical, and general contracted services to repair and maintain facilities as directed by manager.
  • Proficient in utilizing CMMS system to manage daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual work order completion. Must perform other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all Federal, State and Local laws, OSHA CAL-OSHA safety regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Complies with all regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment and General Atomics Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle (valid license required). May require use of a personal, or company vehicle, or electrical cart.
  • Must participate in the Facilities On-Call program as required.
  • Ability to travel to other regional locations for work, training, meetings, and other work-related activities.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires an associate degree or two-year technical or trade school certification, Military NEC or MOS, along with ten or more years progressive experience in facilities maintenance and construction. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in facilities maintenance with extensive knowledge of one or more facility operation including HVAC, plumbing systems, door and gates, general building maintenance.
  • Must be customer focused and possess:
    • the ability to identify, analyze, interpret and report on issues;
    • organization skills to maintain flow of work within the unit;
    • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interface with all levels of internal employees, external customers and management;
    • the ability to represent the company as a knowledgeable resource;
    • the ability to analyze and use judgment in resolving complex issues and problems;
    • knowledge of computer operations and applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and specialized facilities management software.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as a leader is essential as well as the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to work a 9/80 schedule, Monday-Thursday 5:30am-3:00pm, (working) Friday 6:00am-2:30pm. Must be able to work overtime hours and different work shifts as required.
