General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We are looking for an experienced Electro-Optics Software Engineer, with a solid background in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML), and Computer Vision (CV) as applied to complex EO/IR sensors to join our team in Rancho Bernardo.

DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with our cross-functional R&D team to develop novel and exquisite, highly integrated EO/IR sensor systems, with your immediate emphasis on image processing algorithms, developing machine learning models and training deep neural networks for computer vision tasks, culminating with deployment of full AI/ML solutions.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge algorithms and techniques to enhance image quality, analyze image data, data reduction, and automate image-based object/target recognition (ATR) on space and airborne platforms.
  • Solves exciting and difficult real-world problems in image processing, including but not limited to: Object detection, pose estimation, detection of static and moving targets, target tracking, ghost removal, de-blurring, super-resolution, contrast Enhancement, region detection, shape matching, image fusion from multi-modal data, model fitting, clutter suppression, SNR enhancement, 3D/depth image processing, rectification, registration, transformation, denoising, mosaic building, and image reconstruction.
  • Research and Development with Classical and AI/ML based Computer Vision Algorithms, and ability to distinguish advantages/disadvantages of using classical vs. AI/ML in specific situations.
  • Ability to evaluate approaches based on image processing performance, speed, and efficiency when implemented on PCs and embedded real-time platforms and looking for ways for reducing computational burden.
  • Participate in company growth in this area and effectively interact with engineers and program office across multiple disciplines including systems, EO subsystems, optics, opto-mechanics, detectors, cryogenics, Guidance Navigation and control (GNC), and EO system test and verification in areas of space based remote sensing, airborne surveillance and reconnaissance, missile seekers, and other autonomous platforms.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Highly skilled in AI/ML CV Image Processing with a background in EOIR sensors and systems.
  • Solid experience with C,C++, Mathworks MATLAB, OpenCV, Python, CUDA, along with experience with a machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Caffe, Tensorflow, Jupyter Notebook; ability/willingness to learn other languages/tools, e.g. NumPy, SciPy, scikit-image)
  • Experience with Linux and real-time operating systems desirable.
  • Strong background in mathematics, physics, computer science, computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning (Network Development, Training and Deployment) to wide range of CV applications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required
