Exciting opportunity for a Tools and Support Engineer within the Flight Technologies department in San Diego, CA. (Poway, CA) The Flight Technologies department is a technical organization focusing on aspects of the flight sciences and the Tools & Support group supports all disciplines within Flight Technologies.

As a Tools and Support Engineer you will be a member of our development team that builds and uses software tools for the design, production and testing of our world class Uncrewed Air Vehicle (UAV) programs.

This position blends the skills of aerospace and software engineering and will be responsible for developing next generation tools for our Flight Technologies department. This position will be expected to design and develop software tools that aid in all phases of the design cycle; from concept to delivery, ensuring safety, performance, and compliance with industry standards. In addition to creation of the tools, this role is to be able to exercise these tools, perform aerodynamic, performance and propulsion analyses supporting programs where needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Software engineering responsibilities include determining requirements, outlining development plans and holding retrospectives, as well as writing, testing and deploying products
  • Aerospace engineering responsibilities include aerodynamic database development, mathematical modeling, aerodynamic predictions, simulation development, flight & wind tunnel test support, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Scope requirements, implement and execute aero-related design tool development, then be able to demonstrate and use tools as part of a design team. Examples include the design of laminar flow wings and tail sizing.
  • Research and implement industry wide best practices for version control, continuous integration and continuous development
  • After the development of a tool, support deployment in various test environments, including with engineering teams, during wind tunnel tests and flight tests. The tool stack typically includes elements of reducing, analyzing, visualizing, archiving, and documenting data.
  • Generate reports, specifications, memos, performance charts for flight manuals and design reviews.
  • Present results within the Engineering Organization, to internal program offices, may infrequently present to external customers and professional organizations.
  • Occasional travel to wind tunnels, flight test sites, customer sites, and conferences.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project and task management experience.
  • Occasional travel to the company flight test facilities or sub-contractor facilities is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with GA-ASI aircraft, specifically MQ-1C, MQ-9 and/or MQ-20.
  • Proven experience developing software with minimal oversight.
  • Familiarity with advanced software development concepts, agile software methods, software version management (SVN or GIT), continuous integration and continuous development platforms and methodologies.
  • Code development experience, example languages include C, C++, Java, Python, Matlab.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Design and simulation tools.

Salary:$81,080 - $141,650
