We have an exciting career opportunity in Poway, CA (San Diego, CA) for a Staff Electrical Engineer System Test and Analysis Supervisor working in our Unmanned Aircraft Systems group. With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution to advanced technical engineering problems. This position is responsible for leading a team that develops the aircraft electrical subsystems of multiple Advanced Programs development efforts. This leadership role also has responsibility for ensuring that all work performed by the team is 1) technically correct, based on solid, core electrical engineering principles and 2) that the electrical engineering effort (cost, schedule, and technical design) is executed in a manner allowing for program success. As a leader within the Electrical Engineering Systems Group, the person who fills this role will leverage the talent of direct reports to accomplish the tasks at hand.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises, directs, and reviews the work of three to five Electrical Engineers through complex analysis and testing on multiple aircraft electrical subsystems including electrical power, lightning protection, vehicle management/flight control and payloads.
  • Oversees the team’s output for consistency and accuracy.
  • Provides leadership and acts as an advisor for determining engineering objectives.
  • Guides project planning and associated project management efforts.
  • Oversees the development of standardized analytical tools and test procedures for the entire Electrical Engineering Systems Group (EESG) to use in support of the electrical systems listed above.
  • Facilitates collaboration with cross disciplinary engineering teams, program teams and production teams to perform analysis and testing in support of the electrical systems listed above.
  • Generates lower-level design requirements based on analysis and test results for cross-disciplinary engineering teams to meet overall electrical system design needs when integrating new electrical components on the aircraft.
  • Uses analysis and testing data to verify electrical system design requirements are met.
  • Presents report(s) at engineering meetings, develops presentations, and participates in program reviews.
  • Monitors and communicates staffing needs to leadership for current and future efforts.
  • Leads the hiring process if the need for additional staffing is identified.
  • Actively manages the performance and career aspirations of all direct reports.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task and project levels to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and lead a team of professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Must be able to approach problems via core engineering principles and by examining, understanding, and thoroughly explaining complex technical concepts to engineers and other professional staff.
  • Must be able to develop new analyses, processes, and documents that allow less experienced staff to approach similar problems more efficiently in the future.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Experience with FAA Regulations, NATO Standards, Military Specifications, and other aerospace industry standards is desired.
  • Experience with DO-160 section 22 lightning induced transient susceptibility is desired.
  • A general understand of lightning environment and the indirect and direct effects of lightning on aircraft is desired.
  • Experience with system modeling tools (MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, etc.) is highly desired.
  • Experience with aircraft electrical systems is desired.
  • Familiarity with GA-ASI products is desired.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
