Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position is responsible for providing cost estimating support on complex proposals and contracts which includes estimating labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers.
  • Ensures cost estimates are developed in accordance with the request for proposal (RFP) specifications while meeting overall corporate policies and objectives.
  • Consults with management and external sources on cost estimating activities and provides leadership in cost and pricing reviews with management and customer representatives.
  • May function in an advisory or project leadership role providing direction to professional or technical staff.
  • Participates as a member of proposal teams and with management on short and long-term proposal planning as well as supporting contract negotiating teams.
  • Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, and price auditors.
  • Research and analyze specifications and calculate production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data in support of proposal and contract activities.
  • Coordinate the collection and accumulation of appropriate cost, contractual, schedule, and technical data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Establish estimating assumptions, rationale, and basis of estimate (BOE) for use in cost estimating assignments.
  • Prepare and maintain historical cost data.
  • Consult with project engineers to develop engineering and manufacturing labor hour estimates and consult with procurement to develop a consolidated bill of materials.
  • Respond to inquiries, identify issues, and guide the development of innovative solutions to complex and diverse challenges concerning a variety of cost estimating topics.
  • Document, validate, and present cost estimates to project management, customers, and auditors.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or related discipline, with emphasis in finance, cost accounting, cost estimating and/or project management; along with fifteen or more years of progressive cost estimating experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of cost estimating concepts and principles, FAR and related governmental rules and regulations, and experience demonstrating a broad application of those principles, concepts, and practices.
  • Must be able to organize and coordinate workloads to meet established milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must be customer focused and possess:
    • The ability to identify issues and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems of diverse scope.
    • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills to document, report, and present cost estimating findings to a variety of audiences
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Applications.
