Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Development Engineer to support the development and hardware fabrication for advanced RF structures and antenna projects at General Atomics-ASI!
This engineering position supports the development of integrated hardware solutions for advanced aircraft applications as a member of the Advanced Aircraft Engineering (AAE) organization. In a Product Development Engineering capacity, you will be a part of a team that focuses on building prototype and low-rate production antenna designs while acting in the role of a Product Development Engineer. This roll will also provide Design for Manufacturing input into the design process and will work directly with manufacturing and test to deliver hardware solutions to realize technical performance requirements. In this position you will also be responsible for implementing new materials and manufacturing methods and may act as a Principal Investigator to mature new manufacturing methods.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform in the role of a Manufacturing Engineer to define the manufacturing approach to deliver prototype through low-rate production hardware.
- Generate manufacturing planning and product structure to track all aspects of the build and test validation of highly technical RF integrated structures.
- Collaborate within the design process to influence elements of hardware designs to ensure manufacturabilty, correct use of material and process standards. Coordinate Design For Manufacturing and Design for Assembly techniques.
- Generate manufacturing plans, define tooling requirements, track Bill of Materials and material procurements, coordinate testing and inspection, and work directly with Operations leadership to coordinate resourcing to achieve build schedules.
- Align with Program Integrated master schedule.
- Participate in material and process Development Activities providing technical support to program IPT and Transition to Production efforts.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Work Centers, Program Management, and Supplier Management for Make/Buy decisions.
- Develop specialized Tooling Design Requirements and coordinate with Manufacturing to deliver tooling solutions.
- Coordination of Engineering/Liaison Support for Product Build and Qualification Testing
- Interact with internal and external engineering and project/program staff at various levels concerning resolution of technical/requirements issues.
- Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
- May represent the Advanced Aircraft Engineering Department in communicating/resolving technical issues associated with hardware builds.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments.
- Significant experience in project planning including scheduling, resource planning and working with a variety of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) and Work Order systems.
- Must have RF materials experience with a focus on manufacturing, integration and test protocols.
- Strong knowledge of laminated composite material processing and secondary bonding processes.
- Strong knowledge of assembly techniques and tooling concepts required to achieve tolerance control associated with electronic assemblies and aircraft hardware.
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Able to work additional hours as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required, current and active in-scope DoD Security Clearance is preferred.
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
- Active Special Program Access (SAP) is preferred.
