Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Supervisor to manage one of the three Ground Control Station (GCS) Mechanical Engineering sections. The small section consists of designers and engineers. With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude for assignments which are normally outlined in terms of broad specifications, objectives, and required results. The supervisor would be accountable for guiding the successful resolution of engineering problems, serving as a consulting resource of engineering knowledge, applying the latest technical advancements to the problem, and functioning in a project leadership role. The role would also document findings, communicate results to the engineering staff, make technical presentations, and represent the organization as the prime technical contact on projects/programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise and direct the work of Engineers/Designers in the GCS Mechanical Engineering Department and oversee their output for consistency and accuracy.
  • Plan and schedule work assignments for the team.
  • Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems.
  • Act as the primary contact for the team; serve as the liaison in providing status across engineering and other internal teams • Assure that internal and customer needs are identified and addressed.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and reviews the accuracy and completeness of assignments.
  • Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives. Communicates performance expectations and provides assistance to resolve problems encountered by the team. May participate or lead design reviews with internal teams or customers.
  • Monitor and maintain budgetary controls; allocate resources and make recommendations on the acquisition and use of equipment, systems, or other capital expenditures
  • Make recommendations on human resources actions (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.).
  • Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others.
  • Research, design, develop and create detail drawings and parts lists for mechanical products and systems such as rack enclosures, junction boxes, case equipment, and hand held instruments.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with 19” rack and LRU design per EIA/ECA-310.
  • Experienced user of CREO CAD software is preferred.
  • Experienced user of IcePak thermal analysis CFD software.
  • Experienced user of ANSYS structural analysis FEA software.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.

Salary:$105,890 - $189,545
