Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer (Magnetic Machines) to join our GA-ASI division in San Diego, CA (Poway, CA). Under general directions with limited review, this position will test and analyze advance electromagnetic/electromechanical components and equipment for unmanned air vehicles (UAVs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for test equipment set up, data acquisition, data analysis, and documentation reports.
  • Responsible for documenting new designs, writing test plans, and processing engineering change request and notices.
  • Maybe responsible for test fixtures design using 3D CAD software and generating concepts for review.
  • Test items will be 5-60 kW alternator/generator machines, brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors, fail-safe brakes, solenoids, resolvers, and proximity sensors for mechanical actuators that are powered and/or controlled by electrical power devices.
  • Responsible for all generator/alternator, servomotor, and hydraulic and electric actuator tests and troubleshooting of both new and existing designs.
  • Responsible for all documentation necessary to support production (verification test plans and test reports, production test procedures, BOMs, CRs, CNs, and SCDs) as well trade studies for new designs.
  • Provide onboard aircraft integration test, production, and field support as needed.
  • Determines technical objectives for solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience with electric actuators components (gear heads, motor drives, brushed and brushless motors, resolver, solenoids, etc.)
  • Experience with testing electric power generation machines preferred.
  • Electromechanical experience with electric motors and generators; working with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as needed.
  • Experience with 3D mechanical design
  • Experience with modeling/controlling motors and generators preferred.
  • Experience with data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of magnetic design of DC motors and generators is preferred.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Salary:$81,080 - $141,650
