Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to lead our Actuated Systems group in Poway, CA. The Actuated Systems group is responsible for the development, qualification, and sustainment of electro-mechanical actuators, control surface mechanisms, utility mechanisms, deployment mechanical devices and mechanisms, locking devices, and other mechanical motion control systems for GA-ASI aircraft. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing the group’s engineering and design staff in executing support of GA-ASI’s platforms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates with technical staff, program managers, and executive management to develop and implement technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives relating to actuated systems.
  • Provide leadership and managerial support to team members including performance and salary management for staff.
  • Support and lead the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and resolution of engineering problems, including mentorship and oversight of reporting engineering leads.
  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by directing and participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required professional and technical talent.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of actuators including gear train design and analysis, fabrication techniques, and test for aerospace applications.
  • Oversee the technical management of key subcontractors.
  • May be responsible for decisions that have an extended impact on outcomes where erroneous decisions could result in critical delays and modifications to projects.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least seven of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Subject matter expert in electro-mechanical actuator and mechanism design, integration, and qualification including gear trains and mechanical transmission, bearings and lubrication, kinematic linkages, and brushless motors and similar electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface within departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, and government representatives.
  • Technical understanding of servo driver electronics, servo control theory, and hydraulic systems desired.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance is required, active clearance preferred.
  • Leadership experience desired.

Salary:$140,900 - $257,233
