Job Summary General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and
monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

Under limited supervision this position is responsible for inspection activity on Space Systems programs including in-process and final inspections of satellite assemblies and material to ensure compliance with customer requirements, company specifications, and quality requirements. Sets up, operates, inspects, tests, and adjusts new and reworked tools, gauges, and fixtures for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications. Maintains, processes, and compiles a variety of confidential and sensitive electronic and hard copy reports, records and statistics. Assignments are typically non-routine where judgment and assessment are required to resolve moderately complex issues. May conduct inspections at customer or vendor sites.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inspects space flight hardware and assemblies, machined parts, components, and materials to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory guidelines (Military Standards, ASTM and ANSI, and ASME Code). Provides various electronic and hard copy reports of inspections and notifies appropriate parties including project engineers.
  • Sets up and calibrates measuring and test equipment and schedules service and repair of equipment. Prepare, update, and maintain calibration computer databases.
  • Coordinates government inspections with on-site customer representatives.
  • Observes testing (including thermal vacuum, vibration, functional testing) and provides oversight, as necessary, to verify compliance with requirements.
  • May interact with and provide responses to regulatory agencies and customers during their audits and review of company inspection and calibration activities.
  • May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • May coordinate the procurement of standard materials, services, and parts for inspections.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • May travel occasionally to support off-site inspection activities.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires an associate's degree, trade school certificate, military training, or equivalent in quality inspections or certification by a professional group such as ASQ, and three or more years of progressive experience in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical or metrology inspection and calibration. May substitute additional experience in lieu of formal education and training.
  • Experience inspecting complex satellite assemblies and space flight hardware is highly desirable.
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, NASA, and Space Force quality assurance program requirements is highly desirable.
  • Certification to IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620 with Space Addendum, and J-STD-001 with Space Addendum is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work in a clean room environment and follow electrostatic discharge practices.
  • Must possess:
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications, and perform mathematical computations
  • Good communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees including management
  • Ability to interpret complex information and respond to a variety of complex issues
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Suite and SAP or similar ERP/MRP program).
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to adapt to various working conditions such as heights, high voltage electricity or radioactive materials.
  • Currently possess or has the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) “SECRET” clearance is required.
