Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

This position will be responsible for coordinating effort across multiple functional engineering departments to produce Human Machine Interface based specifications from the UAS level down to the component level. System level understanding of the UAS design will be used to evaluate quality and completeness of specification documents. This position is to be based in the high desert, Grey Butte, El Mirage, Adelanto, or in Poway.
Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing HMI Developmental Documentation with an emphasis on Page/Checklist/CAS interoperability on new and existing aircraft systems currently in development. Major areas of effort include requirements derivation, CONOPS development, working with flight crew and engineering subject matter experts, and supporting human factors engineers. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and anticipated results. Work is reviewed at milestones or at completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff and makes technical presentations as required. Will coordinate segments of a specific project and may have frequent inter- organization and customer contact on difficult technical issues. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staff. Supports UAS/aircraft SIT, SIL test, Ground Test, and Flight Test.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinated development and maintenance of electronic checklists for all test environment phases of a given program.
  • Coordinated creation of checklists based on CONOPs, page design and CAS integration.
  • Creating source material for technical publications, airworthiness, and other groups that rely on HMI documents as source material.
  • Manage others to maintain current publications.
  • Lab testing of new checklists their associated ground station interactions.
  • Responsible for development and submission of artifacts (CONOPS, HMI Design Documents, and Reports) to substantiate certification, qualification and acceptance by customer(s).
  • Provides technical coordination of vendors and suppliers.
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of operational flight experience, including operations of General Atomics MQ-1, and MQ-9 aircraft.
  • Preferred is or was UAV Flight Instructor.
  • Preferred is or was FAA Flight Instructor.
  • Preferred knowledge of various markup languages such as SGML, XML, and HTML.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Preference given to candidates with military aircraft flight experience.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Experience with FAA Regulations or MIL Specifications desired.
  • Excellent writing and strong problem solving skills desired.
  • Able to travel to support design reviews and trade shows and testing in various locations including, but not limited to, Poway, El Mirage, Grey Butte, and Yuma.
