Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Airframe Liaison Engineer at General Atomics-ASI located in Adelanto, CA at the prototype facility. This position will support the development of next generation, high performance uncrewed aircraft.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaise between prototype manufacturing staff and design engineering staff to support prototype aircraft builds, resolve issues, and make changes to engineering designs and drawings
  • Use engineering principles, experience and judgement to craft solutions to unique problems encountered during first-time prototype development efforts
  • Work closely with multiple disciplines including Project Engineers, Design Engineers, Manufacturing, Procurement/Planning, QA and other departments as required to ensure products are completed properly and on-time
  • Partner with shop floor staff to direct non-routine engineering requirements and ensure the staff is positioned for success on prototype manufacture projects
  • Work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, and other technical disciplines to independently prepare/status and/or lead the preparation of engineering design solutions to challenging problems
  • Assess and evaluate product non-conformities, determine root cause, create and document solution dispositions

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.
  • Must have valid, current Secret level security clearance or better

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A generalist with strong understanding of core engineer principles
  • Experience with aircraft and airframe components and layouts
  • Experience with typical aerospace manufacturing methods and materials including metallic machining operations and composite laminates
  • Proficiency with CAD software creating models and engineering drawings
  • The ability to prepare clear concise written engineering documentation and presentations
  • A passion for and hands on work (building, machining, fabricating, repair, etc.) is desirable
