Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
We are currently hiring a Director of Engineering who will lead the Radar Technologies group within GA-EMS. This person will provide leadership to RF Technologies Staff, ensure the success of a portfolio of programs within the group, and work with executive management and other key stakeholders to provide strategic and functional leadership for the group.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a high-performing team of engineers, ensuring alignment with business and strategic objectives, and allocating technical resources to achieve stated and program objectives.
- Team Management: Establish and maintain consistent team expectations, ensure the quality of the group’s work products, conduct performance management, and provide training and mentoring for staff and supervisors.
- Resource Management: Maintain group manpower and ensure appropriate resources and skillsets are available through hiring, mentoring, internal cross-training, external courses, and targeted individual career growth.
- Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment and build consensus for technical solutions between GA functional engineering departments, program management, external GA P&Ls, and customer stakeholders.
- Program Execution: Lead diverse multi-functional engineering teams to meet critical program milestones and successfully execute programs within defined cost and schedule parameters.
- Customer Engagement: Represent the group, ensuring consistent and appropriate messaging to external customer stakeholders, across the DoD, industry partners, subcontractors, and senior internal/executive stakeholders.
- Proposals: Support engineering estimates and proposals in response to customer and leadership directives.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements within the group, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and group success.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as fifteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Must have previous experience in technical leadership with an emphasis on product development .
- Must have previous experience in personnel leadership.
- Proven ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them in a dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrates technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
- Experience in developing and integrating hardware and software with various engineering disciplines
- Direct Technical expertise and experience with Multi-Mode Radars. Experience with Electronic Warfare systems is a plus.
- Product Management, Proposal Development, Basis of Estimation, Commercial and/or DoD Product development experience.
- Ability to resolve complex technical problems.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to build enterprise relationships and manage customer expectations.
- Must be customer-focused, able to work independently and in a team environment, and travel as required
- Emotional intelligence and ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.
- Results-oriented with the ability to maintain focus on program success and long-term organizational goals.
- Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
