Job Summary General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Test Engineer located in our Rancho Bernardo location. The Test Engineer will assist the test engineering staff in planning and executing testing of various products at various site locations. The individual will interact with technical staff and report to senior test engineers and test managers. The tests that the individual will be required to support range from production and factory acceptance tests, system and component level requirements verification tests combined with operational tests, lifecycle tests, environmental and electromagnetic tests.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Aid in developing concepts and plans for test programs.
  • Aid in the developing, mapping and tracking of test requirements.
  • Create and update Test procedures and assist sub-contractors in design and execution of various tests on high power system electronics.
  • Translate product requirements into verification tests instructions.
  • Take a lead role when needed to execute and direct subsystem and system test operations.
  • Provide technical direction to staff engineers, technicians, and subcontractors when needed.
  • Aid in troubleshooting the tests as needed and interpret collected data for preparation and creation of test reports.
  • The individual will work closely with the customer and subcontractors at the test site to execute the test and will play a key role in providing status of the test progress.
  • Participate in establishing design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for testing.
  • Responsible for adhering to all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Some travel to the test sites located in, but not limited to, Alabama, Southern California, Virginia and Mississippi is also required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Should have an understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts.
  • Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and good communication skills (Verbal and written).
  • Must be able to work extended hours and travel as needed.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Working knowledge of space or missile systems with experience conducting environmental tests while operating these types of systems.
  • Hands on experience testing power electronic equipment.
  • Experience in writing technical documents such as test procedures and test reports.
  • Experience in communicating technical information to peers and to customers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading or guiding a team independently.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and travel as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Power Electronics in the area of power conditioning and storage and experience conducting tests in a development and production environment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical subsystem and system level testing and some experience with board level tests.
  • Have a desire to work in a fast-paced testing environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is desired
