Job Summary GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Materials/Weld Engineer to join our EMS group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reviews raw material certifications for conformance to purchase order, engineering drawing and specification requirements
  • Reviews engineering drawings for correct materials and processes notes
  • May participate in hands-on metallurgical laboratory work
  • Reviews engineering drawings for correct weld symbol and code application requirements
  • Develops weld maps for welded assemblies
  • Generates weld qualification documentation and organizes qualification activities (PQR, WPS, WPQR)
  • Reviews and approves supplier weld documentation for correctness to purchase order requirements
  • Resolves issues and nonconformance’s related to welding discrepancies.
  • Performs on-site supplier audits to ensure materials, processes or welding requirements are in conformance with purchase order requirements
  • Performs weld requirements and process training to GA welders and other staff within the company, such as the Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Design Engineering organizations
  • Reviews and approves welding operations for GA welded fabrication work instructions and routers
  • Writes technical documentation (i.e. specifications, test reports, lab reports) and makes technical presentations as required
  • May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects
  • May work on materials, processes, welding and additive manufacturing research and development activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors in engineering or a related technical field as well as five or more years of manufacturing engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Degree in metallurgical, materials and/or welding engineering highly desired.
  • Five or more years of progressive metallurgical, materials and/or welding engineering experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory
  • Possess the ability to understand new concepts rapidly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment
  • Ability to understand and perform materials, processes and welding engineering tasks
  • A good understanding of materials and processes specifications and how to interpret them
  • Experience reading and interpreting welding codes such as NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010-248, NAVSEA S9074-AR-GIB-010 278, NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010-1688, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.3, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D9.1 AWS D17.1, and AWS D17.2.
  • Ability to organize tasks to meet schedule needs
  • Ability to read, comprehend and following company policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to work extended hours to support business needs and priorities
  • Possess a positive attitude and be open to learning
  • Experience with and an understanding of SAP is a plus
  • Engineering certifications are a plus.

Salary:$81,080 - $141,650
