We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Laser Technician to join our team located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains systems; implements modifications and engineering changes in the assembly installation, and operation of systems.
  • Maintain developmental laser/optical laboratory and supports duties such as cleaning and organizing hardware.
  • Execute well-defined laser/optical test activities utilizing common laser test equipment.
  • Support the build and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies for developmental laser systems.
  • Build and maintains supporting equipment necessary for the operation of large scale laser systems, including chillers, power supplies, flow systems and interlocks.
  • Skilled in pipe fitting and tube bending. Bends and forms piping to meet Engineering drawings. Familiar with Swagelok and Hydra Flow Fittings is a must.
  • Operates equipment to perform tests, troubleshooting and repair of systems.
  • Performs experiment, test or assembly based on sketches, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Fabricates, assembles, modifies, and installs laboratory equipment, experimental apparatus, or commercial hardware of moderate complexity.
  • Records and reports experimental or test data, observing data for anomalies, preparing summaries of data via written tabulations, charts, graphs, and reports as necessary.
  • May provide technical assistance to lower-level technicians in work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires an associate's degree in a related technical field and six or more years of laser and/or optics experience. Equivalent professional experience and/or trade school certification may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in the operation of large scale laser systems.
  • Must demonstrate full working knowledge of laser and optics systems and have a basic technical understanding of principles for their operation.
  • Must possess the ability to grasp new concepts quickly and work with general supervision; the ability to read and interpret sketches, schematics, blueprints, drawings and other engineering documentation; the ability to use basic laboratory equipment; the ability to identify problems, and collect and analyze data; good analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and assess situations; and good knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance is required.
  • US Citizenship is required
