We currently have an exciting opportunity within our corporate Facilities group as Industrial Mechanic – CNC Technician, based in the San Diego, California region.
As a skilled specialist, this position is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, modifying, rebuilding, and repairing manufacturing equipment to include but not limited to CNC machines, mills, laths, autoclave, ovens, compressed air systems, dust collectors and other facilities and manufacturing equipment. Requires the ability to read and understand manufacturer's operation and maintenance manuals, and safety regulations. Performs periodic inspection to locate and determine cause of equipment malfunction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for assisting in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing multi-axis CNC machines, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, robotics, hydraulic systems, compressed air system, process chillers and associated equipment.
• Starts and operates CNC machines and systems to test their performance.
• Identifies required tools and special equipment required for the job.
• Reads and interprets engineering drawings, electrical and electronic schematics, engineering flow diagrams, motion and industrial controls, and performs algebra, geometry basic shop math.
• Operates, maintains and troubleshoots Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
• Utilizes machine troubleshooting equipment: digital multi-meters, amp probes, dial indicators, depth gauges, micrometers and Vernier caliper.
• Maintains inventory of essential spare parts and re-ordering when necessary.
• Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements.
• Removes and disposes of oils, cutting fluids, and other hazmat materials.
• Assists with arc and oxyfuel welding, rigging, moving, setup and leveling of machines.
• May respond to machine shop CNC emergency calls.
• Utilizes MS Office Suite, SAP, and other applications.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:• Typically requires a two-year technical degree, trade school equivalent, military class C school or Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), and seven or more years of progressive experience as a journeyman CNC mechanic and production equipment repair technician. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
• Advanced working knowledge of electronics systems with ladder logic and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
• Advanced working knowledge of all electrical equipment and systems up to 480 volts 3 phase, industrial plant electrical wiring and code requirements.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of CNC maintenance practices and regulations as well as safety codes.
• Must have complete and detailed knowledge of applicable federal, state and local safety codes and be able to read, interpret and explain schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Must have a working knowledge of and discretion in safely operating hand and power tools, machine tools, and electrical measuring instruments.
• Must be customer focused and possess:
o A valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record verified by the DMV.
o Excellent interpersonal skills to work with all levels of employees, outside Vendors and contractors.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings.
o The ability to resolve extremely complex issues that require analysis, evaluation and interpretation.
o Excellent knowledge of computer operations and application pertinent to CNCs.
• Must be able to work overtime hours and different work shifts as required, including staggered work shifts Friday-Tuesday 6:00am-2:30pm or Monday–Friday 2:30pm – 10:30pm, if required.
• US citizenship is required.
