Job Summary General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

Under close supervision with specific detailed instructions on routine tasks, this position is responsible for providing design solutions for structural products and components of products using computer-aided design (CAD) equipment and technical engineering software such as SolidWorks, PTC Creo, and Siemens NX. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of specific tasks and reviewed regularly for adequacy in meeting objectives. Responsible for documenting findings, communicating results to engineering staff and may make technical design presentations as required. Typically has some intra-organizational contact and may have some customer contact.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops design solutions for assigned structural products and components.
  • Interacts with engineering staff on design concepts and progress.
  • May be assigned design responsibility for a portion of a project or program.
  • Develops layouts, sketches and blueprints and may investigate design factors such as damage tolerance, durability, and structural modeling.
  • Details related structural assemblies, mechanisms, and devices.
  • Validates conformity to design standards and specifications and identifies design errors and other deficiencies and recommends changes.
  • Provides documentation, identifies design issues, and makes technical design presentations to engineering staff as required.
  • Remains current in CAD techniques and any applicable state of the art engineering design software applications.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires an Associates degree or a certificate from a recognized organization indicating completion of training in SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX design software plus eight or more years of progressive experience utilizing CAD software. Of those eight years, at least six months should be spent utilizing SolidWorks, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX engineering design software. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of work experience.
  • Must have an understanding of engineering design concepts and principles and possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, applying them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Must be able to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases.
  • Must also be able to determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of difficult problems.
  • Must have good communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and excellent computer skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required
