Job Summary From concept-to-deployment, General Atomics North Point Defense, Inc. (GA-NPD), a division of General Atomics Integrated Intelligence, Inc. (GA-Intelligence), provides AI/ML-based autonomous signal processing and data dissemination solutions providing real-time actionable intelligence supporting tactical and national mission priorities. North Point Defense is seeking a Software Specialist to join a new, dynamic department dedicated to supporting our scientific and engineering teams. This department will focus on developing complete systems and software applications for DoD and commercial customers. Our mission is to support teams developing domain-specific algorithms by providing exceptional software solutions. This position may require an active Security Clearance.
As a Software Specialist, you will work closely with scientists and engineers across multiple teams, turning complex algorithms, pseudocode, and models (e.g., Matlab implementations) into internal tools, demo applications, and production-ready software. You will regularly interact with subject matter experts in RF signals processing, machine learning, and related fields. The ideal candidate is a self-starter eager to learn, work collaboratively, and develop innovative solutions that align with technical constraints, coding standards, and quality requirements.
You’ll be joining a team that emphasizes collaboration, Agile development, and delivering high-quality software while maintaining sustainable workloads for everyone.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Execute the full software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Gather requirements and conduct system analysis and design.
- Write well-designed, unit-tested code that meets project and quality standards.
- Translate algorithms and pseudocode into robust, efficient software solutions.
- Develop and maintain software documentation, including requirements, solutions, and user manuals.
- Integrate software components into fully functional systems.
- Develop and implement software verification plans and quality assurance procedures.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems.
- Deploy programs and evaluate user feedback to enhance functionality and performance.
- Work in compliance with Agile project plans and industry standards.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in computer science, information systems or related discipline and progressive software development experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Proficiency in Java, including experience with Swing and the NetBeans UI designer.
- Experience in Python development.
- Knowledge of Agile development principles.
- Experience with Red Hat and Ubuntu Linux operating systems.
- Additional programming experience in C, C++, or Shell scripting.
- Knowledge of gRPC and Google Protocol Buffers.
- Proficiency in software engineering tools and best practices.
- Object-oriented analysis and design experience.
- Client-server application development experience.
- Network programming with TCP sockets (UDP experience is a plus).
- Version control experience (e.g., Git, Subversion).
- Experience in threading, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with software testing methodologies and documentation.
- A strong foundation in computer science, with a focus on data structures, algorithms, and software design.
