Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering Flight Test team in Poway, CA.
The Project Engineer on the Electrical Engineering Flight Test Team will lead and manage the planning, execution, and oversight of projects focused on the design, integration, and testing of advanced electrical systems for flight test platforms. This role involves creating detailed project plans, tracking progress, and reporting status, risks, and achievements to stakeholders. Project engineer will coordinate efforts across cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure successful project delivery within schedule and budget constraints.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the project engineering effort for flight test projects, including planning, execution, and reporting.
- Develop and manage the flight test engineering plan, ensuring alignment with program schedules, budgets, and performance goals.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to define and secure the technical resources necessary for flight test activities.
- Provide near term and short-term prioritization of engineering tasks, ensuring timely closure of actions to meet program milestones.
- Manage the integration of engineering solutions into flight test campaigns, including design, development, integration, and performance verification.
- Support the development of test plans, procedures, and schedules to ensure compliance with system requirements and contractual obligations.
- Lead presentations for flight test progress, results, and issue resolutions to senior leadership and customers.
- Ensure proper documentation of test activities, results, and lessons learned, adhering to engineering best practices.
- Support proposal development and contribute to Basis of Estimates for flight test engineering tasks.
- Represent the Flight Test team in cross-functional discussions.
- Evaluate system performance during flight test campaigns, ensuring requirements verification and validation.
- Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced engineers and foster a collaborative team environment.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Demonstrates broad technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice, with significant experience in project leadership.
- Experience in flight test operations or systems engineering related to aircraft, sensors, or subsystems is desirable.
- Familiarity of flight engineering processes, including requirements flow-down, system architecture, integration, verification, and validation.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) are required.
- Experience with PLM tools (e.g., Windchill) and requirements management systems is desired.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with customers, engineering teams, and management.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, schedule, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced testing environment.
- Previous experience with DOD programs and unmanned aircraft systems is highly desirable.
- Must be customer-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working with multiple teams to resolve technical problems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
