Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

The Agile Mission Systems (AMS) at GA-ASI in San Diego, CA is a growing center of excellence seeking high-performing technical contributors, unique talent, and future leaders in the Project Engineering (PE) role. Through the PE role, this candidate will be responsible for leading Mission Ground Segment (MGS) development and production efforts by stitching together systems of systems, develop customer facing relationships & networks, and produce mission system capability solutions that meet end users/customer’s requirements and CONOPs. This candidate primary role will center around mission systems architecture, rapidly fielded capabilities, tailored configurations, and prototype/production builds to meet new customer needs within GA-ASI’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Foreign Military Customers, and Company Owned Company Operated (COCO) Leasing Services product line.

Mission Platform Systems (MPS) group provides challenging problem sets focusing in areas but not limited to; Multi-Mode Radars, EO/IR systems, Advanced IRST, Electronic Warfare systems, Multi-INT systems, Countermeasures, Communications, Tactical Datalinks, Automation Autonomy & Artificial Intelligence (A3I), HMI/UI, Cybersecurity, Software Architectures, Open Architectures and Standards (OMS, FACE, STANAG, etc), Networking, Modeling & Simulation. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • With limited direction, provide leadership, direction, and guidance to a multi-discipline engineering team by determining technical objectives and/or solutions to resolve highly technical and complex engineering problems across development, manufacturing, and sustainment programs.
  • Manage and execute complex cross-functional projects involving software and hardware components to cost, schedule, and performance expectations.
  • Lead system level Qualification, Verification and Validation Testing of hardware and software with emphasis placed on deriving & tracking test requirements, generation of system level Test Plans and Procedures, conducting Lab/Ground/Flight testing.
  • Quickly grasp and understand the full scope of Mission Intelligence Station integration & test activities and come up to speed quickly in new areas. Take on high-level problems and recommend a technical path forward
  • Demonstrate proficiency in problem solving, root cause analysis and drawing change procedures
  • Strong ability to collaborate and draw support and guidance from senior engineering staff and program management offices.
  • Mission Architect: Lead design, drive selection of hardware & software, integrate and test communications networks across a variety of platforms and systems with a focus on datacenters and intelligence collection/exploitation products. Support mission architecture implementations and designs,
  • focused on driving interoperability through Open Architectures (e.g. AMS GRA), and Autonomy & AI.
  • Develop Artifacts: create specifications block diagrams, system interconnect diagrams, and define interfaces and ICDs for MGS intelligence systems.
  • Test & Evaluate: Configure, integrate, simulate, test, and evaluate MGS functionality, networks and topologies.
  • Team Leadership: Lead Functional Engineering teams, ensuring alignment with business and strategic objectives, and allocating technical resources to achieve stated and program objectives.
  • Collaboration: Foster a collaborative environment and build consensus for technical solutions between GA functional engineering departments, program management, external GA P&Ls, and customer stakeholders.
  • Customer Engagement: Represent programs as the engineering lead, ensuring consistent and appropriate messaging to senior internal/executive stakeholders.
  • Proposals: Support engineering estimates and proposals in response to customer and leadership directives.
  • Technical Reviews: Perform system analysis, conduct trade studies, author technical white papers, and generate customer technical data packages. Complete, document, and present System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have previous experience in technical leadership with an emphasis on project execution as well as product innovation.
  • Must have a working knowledge of System Engineering concepts, Root Cause Analysis, Top - Down system flow down and Bottom - Up test methodology.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Must have excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills. Must be able to distill complex engineering topics into concise presentation materials, and present effectively to customers, internal stakeholders, and Sr. management.
  • Desired to possess a working knowledge embedded systems, test and verification techniques, and manufacturing engineering principles and concepts.
  • Candidate is desired to have experience with Project Management, Systems Engineering, System Test & Integration, Subcontractor Management, Proposal Development, Basis of Estimation, Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS); Commercial and/or DOD Product development, Cyber/AT/Security best practices.
  • Familiarity with system administration tools such as LINUX/UNIX, Windows operating systems
  • Must be customer-focused, able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a dynamic work environment.
  • Previous experience in developing and integrating hardware and software with various engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, Cyber and Software.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required
