Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
This position is responsible for performing the physical and administrative tasks involved preparing, managing and coordinating global shipments, storing and distribution of materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices and maintains records of received goods. Checks goods against shipping documents, determines packaging requirements, builds special crating fixtures and braces, and packs goods for shipment. Electronically and verbally books freight and schedules shipments.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hands-on leadership of daily operations including workflow scheduling, monitoring productivity and quality, production process trouble shooting, and all other activities required to ensure on-time deliveries and 100% customer satisfaction.
- Certified or prior experience with handling hazardous materials in accordance with International Air Transport Association (IATA), Department of Transportation (DoT), and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) or approved training vendors.
- Knowledgeable of and keeps current with Global Shipping, Receiving, and postal procedures including but not limited to the IATA, DoT, and IMDG transportation policies.
- Able to navigate FedEx/UPS portal interface, familiarity with Domestic and International spot quoting processes.
- Interface with carrier personnel and serve as subject matter expert in regard to their requirements and shipping processes.
- Prepares waybills, posting weight and shipping details. Stamps, stencils or attaches information and shipping instruction onto containers.
- Packs goods for shipment in accordance with applicable specifications, equipment characteristics, transportation methods and routes.
- Prepares required forms and records associated with processing international, special, incoming and outgoing express, registered, certified and insured mail in accordance with procedures.
- Verifies incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices or packing slips to ensure all items are received, not damaged and enters them into SAP in compliance with company policies, procedures and standards.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a high school diploma and five or more years of shipping/receiving experience in a corporate environment. May substitute additional education in lieu of work experience.
- Experience in material handling and warehousing practices and procedures in a complex matrix corporate environment, DoD environment preferred.
- Experience and certification in Domestic, International, and Dangerous Goods shipments is highly preferred.
- Experience is International Trade Compliance policies and Export Record Database procedures is preferred.
- Must be able to be certified to drive a forklift, prior versatility operating various equipment a plus.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- A self-starter with ability to delegate tasks to team members, receive direction, and take initiative to improve.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate both verbally and written internally and externally.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook. Previous experience in a warehouse or shipping/receiving environment with DoD (preferred).
- Use sound judgment and decision-making skills to balance daily priorities.
