Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
In our GSE Production Mechanical Engineering Department, we have an exciting opportunity located in Poway, CA for a Ground Support Equipment Engineering Drafter that wants to be part of making history by participating in the development of some of the most novel remotely piloted aircraft of our time. Under general supervision with some detailed instructions and with periodic review, using computer-aided design (CAD), the drafter shall generate or revise detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, established references, and standard data, in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Working from engineering notes, verbal or written instructions, and detailed sketches, the drafter shall:
- Prepare detailed drawings, parts lists, sketches, schematics, assembly drawings, and installation drawings for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
- Use standard CAD digitizing techniques and skills to create and modify 2D and 3D solid model or wire frame geometry.
- Create new or complete revised drawings that depict dimensions, tolerances, tabulations, and appropriate sectional views in accordance with established procedures, practices, standards, machinist handbooks, and vendor catalog data.
- Study and understand the fundamentals in the creation of neat, legible drawings.
- Have the latitude to make basic decisions in the absence of well-established precedents.
- Verify their own completed work (e.g. checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities).
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Execute any other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one or more year(s) of experience as an entry level drafter. May substitute additional education in lieu of work experience.
- Must have a working knowledge of basic drawing techniques and be skilled using 2D and 3D CAD modeling.
- Must be familiar with industry practices and standards.
- Requires intermediate knowledge in trigonometry, algebra, and plane and solid geometry as generally acquired through high school and/or trade school studies.
- Requires good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must have a sound knowledge of computer operations and software relevant to drafting tasks.
- The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential.
- Ability to work extended hours as required.
