Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Manager to join the Electrical Engineering group within the ASI Division located in Poway, CA.

This position will report to the Electrical Engineering Director and is responsible for the managing and technical performance of Electrical sub-groups. The candidate will manage all phases of assigned engineering project(s) from inception through completion. Works with technical staff, production managers, project engineers, and program managers to develop and implement annual and long-term technical solutions. Contributes to the development of annual and long-term objectives for the Division/Group. Objectives are typically accomplished through a team of business analysts, technicians, engineers, and engineering supervisors. May be responsible for decisions that impact outcomes where erroneous decisions could cause serious schedule delays and expenditure of additional time, resources and funds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as primary engineering contact for production stop problems in Production Avionics and, to a lesser degree, Ground Control Station (GCS) and Aircraft Integration departments.
  • Act as a go-to resource for daily on-demand technical problem solving. Work with all levels of personnel from production floor technicians through executive management.
  • Manage all activities for electrical test engineering project(s) including planning, managing, and technical performance to ensure business objectives are attained. Projects can be complex and varied, including but not limited to production avionics testing such as servo, processor, and power PWAs/LRUs, flight test, engine test stand, DO-178/254 airworthiness verification, LabVIEW automated software, test automation systems, and hardware test and measurement.
  • Participate in test plan reviews, schematic and software design reviews, test system reviews, procedure development, and engineering efforts for test automation deliverables.
  • Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying project specifications.
  • Interact with internal and external representatives at various levels concerning resolution of technical and scheduling issues. Act as primary contact for test engineering activities.
  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of technical talent. Lead progress review sessions to discuss schedule and technical performance.
  • Participate in the preparation of estimates, proposals, business plans, and operating budget.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates technical expertise in the application of engineering test and measurement principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems. Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment (e.g., power supply, data acquisition, oscilloscope, and electronic load).
  • Experience mentoring junior staff/personnel via teaching, internships, and consulting.
  • Experience troubleshooting test systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
  • An active security clearance is preferred.
