Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Data Scientist for the Business Product Solution (BPS) group within the Mechanical Engineering Department of GA-ASI. The BPS group acts as the spearhead to develop and maintain cross-functional internal systems used for project planning, design controls and resource management. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to translate complex data into actionable insights, communicate findings and recommendations to leadership, and help define analytical objectives that support the group’s strategic goals. Additionally, they will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of data-driven tools, models, and processes that enhance decision-making and operational efficiency. This position is located in Poway, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, develop and program methods, processes and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse 'big data' sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.
  • Develop, refine, deploy, and support statistical and machine learning models.
  • lnteract with stakeholders to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments, document findings and may make technical presentations to business stakeholders as required.
  • Communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to leadership, partner groups, and end users (Engineers and Managers).
  • Recommend solutions to moderately complex technical and procedure issues.
  • Create and utilize moderately complex algorithms and approaches, clean and synthesize training/test data, create/run simulations, and perform analysis of alternatives to best meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Develop and deploy data visualization in order to communicate moderately complex concepts and data in a simple, actionable manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in data science, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related technical/quantitative discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. Must have a general understanding of data science concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience, demonstrating the application of those concepts.
  • Self-motivated to analyze stakeholder requirements and align them with available data sources, analytical methods, and machine learning models to design, prototype, and implement data-driven solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, statistical analysis methods, machine learning models and data visualization software preferred.
  • The ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently or lead in a team environment is essential, as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
