Whether a specific satellite for a specific mission or a constellation of interconnected spacecraft, the GA-EMS Space Systems team is re-defining how customers can access the possibilities of space. GA-EMS offers modular and scalable satellite platforms backed with a history of operational flight experience along with ground system and mission operations services to support defense, civil, commercial, and academic mission requirements.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Mechanical Engineering team, focusing on satellite orbital activities and nuclear/nuclear thermal propulsion. We are seeking an experienced engineer with expertise in spacecraft mechanical ground support equipment and a background in military and space systems to join our team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Can lead a team in developing engineering solutions that require creative designs, detailed analysis, investigation, and resolution of routine engineering problems.
  • Will work on MGSE supporting space systems, high energy lasers, electro-optical systems, and other various systems.
  • Ability to perform and lead junior engineers through mechanical designs including structural analysis, structural dynamics, thermal analysis, 3D CAD and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with the design, analysis, build and test of advanced space hardware. Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes.
  • Determines technical objectives and develop innovative, practical solutions to advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Addresses complex and difficult technical issues requiring highly creative approaches, drawing on advanced engineering concepts.
  • Hands on work environment and high level of interaction with system components. Oversee prototype builds and implement lessons learned into design.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals and invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium are desirable.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Candidate must have real world experience with structural design, drafting, and modeling for space vehicle MGSE
  • Exposure to laboratory environment preferred, including materials characterization, materials testing, vibration testing, and failure analysis.
  • Previous experience with optical system, space systems, launch environments, or military systems is desired.
  • Experience with CAD, FEA software such as Solidworks, ANSYS, NASTRAN, FEMAP is required.
  • Experience with Matlab is helpful
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required. TS-SCI Clearance is desired.

Salary:$98,100 - $171,398
