Pilots complete Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions while piloting Remotely Piloted Aircraft in support of our customers. Responsibilities include managing and performing all aspects of flying from planning, briefing, mission execution, debriefing, aircrew resource management and ground and flight safety. Pilots may be the primary interface between the on-site customer and teams back home and will be counted upon to solve problems.

Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Sensor Operator to join Flight Operations near Adelanto, CA (El Mirage).
This position is the most skilled and qualified General Atomics UAV Sensor Operator and is responsible for providing leadership to a team of Test Sensor Operators for all flight operations at GA-ASI. With limited direction, this position is responsible for serving as a Sensor Operator and performing additional duties similar to those of a co-pilot/Second in Command for company aircraft during test, production, and demonstration flights. Acts as subject matter expert for all aspects of the company’s family of Aircraft Systems, including aircraft hardware/software, ground control station systems, and operational/experimental ground and flight testing. This role requires close collaboration with Test Aircrew, Flight Test Engineers, Project Engineers, and company management to support the development and employment of new aircraft and flight system technologies. Ensures the standardization of company aircraft ground and flight operations and procedures, flight test, and instructional techniques. Primary consultant for executive management in all areas of company product line of aircraft development, flight test and operational mission planning and execution. Responsible for the safe operation of the UAV during all phases of ground and flight operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the company’s most senior Sensor Operator, leading complex tests, production, and demonstration flights for company aircraft.
- Leads and directs a team of up to 15 Test Sensor Operators while providing regular feedback and ensuring compliance with all company and department procedures.
- Manage multiple, concurrent test projects, and may coordinate cross functional teams to ensure project success.
- Provide technical expertise in project meetings and develop test plans and schedules.
- Operate advanced sensor systems and collaborate with UAV pilots to optimize flight paths and sensor positioning.
- May perform duties as Instructor Sensor Operator (ISO), developing advanced training materials and mentoring trainees.
- May perform duties as Evaluator Sensor Operator (ESO), testing trainees on their knowledge and skills, ensuring they meet competency standards.
- Consult with engineering and senior management on system upgrades and procedures.
- Consult with Test Pilots and Flight Test Engineers to develop and execute test plans, test cards, test schedules, mission execution, mission briefs, and debriefs.
- Consult with engineering teams and senior management as subject matter expert to develop company product line of aircraft procedures, upgrades, and features.
- Consult with other senior aircrew, management, and customers to ensure alignment of standardized flight procedures across company locations, including deployment locations.
- Develop and approve procedures for use with high-risk test events, new aircraft features, and upgraded aircraft platforms
- Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and company procedures
- Perform duties at all company aircraft facilities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Additional education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a four year technical degree or trade school equivalency is preferred. Equivalent professional or military experience in UAV or aviation may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Must have a strong aviation background and demonstrate a complete and detailed understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
- 3,000+ hours of company aircraft flight time and a current MCE+LRE qualification.
- Experience operating EO/IR payloads.
- Experience operating Lynx SAR is desired.
- Ability to obtain an FAA Class II medical certificate.
- Five or more years managing a technical team is desired.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
- Ability to effectively interface with all levels of employees, as well as military and civilian customers.
- The ability to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
- Detailed knowledge of computer operations and applications such as, MS Office, Apple iOS, Foreflight, Google Earth, and Rockwell-Collins products.
- The ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- The ability to plan, manage, and coordinate projects.
- The ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
Salary:$98,100 - $171,398
