Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

Under limited supervision, this position is principally responsible for independently maintaining the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems for their site. Duties may include setting up user accounts, maintaining documentation, installing system software, allocation of mass storage space, providing security to computing resources, and backing up systems to provide data integrity. Coordinates the assigned organizations electronic office systems activities which may include personal computers, client servers, electronic mail, mobile devices, on-line and internet resources and standard software products. Interacts with users and may analyze vendor products.
May make recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinate installation and may train
internal users.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates day-to-day functions to ensure the operation and maintenance of computer systems.
  • Coordinates installation of computer hardware and software.
  • Resolves routine and non-routine system problems leveraging the company’s ticketing system. Troubleshoots local and remote systems and may recommend solutions including new hardware or software or upgrades.
  • Coordinates the implementation of system changes or upgrades including deployment, resource
  • requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.
  • Oversees technical asset lifecycles and auditing, from acquisition to disposal.
  • May work the help desk and provide telephone support or arrange for service of trouble calls to users.
  • May act as the primary contact with suppliers and vendors.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever
  • business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Travel is required between work sites, and may use a vehicle to pick up or deliver hardware and software.
  • Other Duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires an Associate's degree in information technology or a related discipline, along with one or more years professional systems administration experience. Equivalent professional experience or certifications in information technology may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate full knowledge of several system administration functions such as system
  • performance tuning and measurement, back-up, recovery, configuration management, LAN/WAN internet protocols, encryption/security/firewalls, web servers or load balancing.
  • Diverse experience with troubleshooting for Linux and Macintosh operating systems for both endpoints and servers, as well as infrastructure systems such as ISP, routers, switches, firewalls, storage, etc.
  • Must be able to schedule and coordinate work assignments to meet established completion dates.
  • Must be customer focused and possess:
    • the ability to identify issues, interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of routine and non-routine problems;
    • good analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings;
    • good interpersonal skills to interface with all levels of employees;
    • the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; and
    • strong computer skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship and a valid driver’s license required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level clearance.
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours or on-call.
