General Atomics is looking for a Deputy Program Manager for Space EO/IR Payload efforts within our Optical Sensor System Group in Acton, MA. A Deputy Program Manager for Space Payloads supports a Program Manager in leading the development, testing, and delivery of space payloads, managing cross-functional teams, tracking budgets and schedules using EVMS, mitigating risks, and facilitating customer interaction and decision-making to ensure projects meet technical requirements and contractual obligations. Key responsibilities include managing finances, developing program plans, coordinating with engineering, supply chain and major subcontractors, and manufacturing, and serving as a liaison with government customers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages programs which have well defined program plans and delivery methodologies. Work closely with the program manager on the day-to-day execution for large space payload programs.
  • Provide Leadership for all phases of assigned program(s) from initiation through delivery.
  • Responsible for program(s) which represent stable growth.
  • Coordinate activities across diverse teams including engineering, business operations, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain.
  • Facilitate internal reviews and customer interactions, and serve as a liaison with government customers to ensure alignment with their requirements.
  • Oversee and support major subcontractors providing payload components to General Atomics.
  • Support the development of program plans, status reports, and contract data requirements.
  • Typically accomplishes objectives through subordinate managers.
  • Responsible for decisions that could impact outcomes where erroneous decisions could cause serious schedule delays and expenditure of additional time and resources.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering, science or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex program administration experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates technical expertise and application of program management principles, concepts, and practice as well as program management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
    • 7-10 years of relevant experience, ideally in the private sector; however, experience in public or semi-public organizations (e.g., Federally Funded Research and Development Centers such as MITRE or MIT Lincoln Laboratory) is also acceptable.
    • Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) experience required.
  • Systems or specific engineering experience on satellites or satellite payloads, particularly with optical or laser payloads.
  • Must be able to develop solutions to problems that require coordination of technologies across program requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret and/or SCI Clearance is required.
