Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing difficult but repetitive welding processes on aluminum and steel parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys. Sets up and operates welding equipment to produce high quality welds in both standard and non-standard shapes and sizes. Follows moderately complex verbal and written instructions including blueprints, sketches and production documentation; may participate in the development of operating procedures, safety guidelines, and manufacturing practices; and maintains required certifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sets up and operates welding equipment used in work operations to produce high quality welds in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Monitors quality in accordance with quality specifications.
- Works with inspectors to locate defects in welds using X-ray, dye penetrate, and other nondestructive inspections; remove defects and repairs weld.
- Recommends proper tools and materials for work to be performed; monitors proper use of welding equipment and safety practices.
- Maintains required certifications.
- May aid in the training of less experienced welders.
- Performs housekeeping and cleanup duties as required.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS
- Typically requires a High school diploma or equivalent and two years or more related welding experience. Must have the required certifications and demonstrate a general understanding of welding concepts, and practices including moderately complex manufacturing documentation such as diagrams, drawings, specifications and work instructions and knowledge of TIG welding techniques.
- Ability to communicate and understand written and verbal communication.
- Ability to identify, interpret and report on issues, contributing solutions to routine problems.
- Ability to use independent judgment in performing welding functions.
- Good interpersonal communication skills to explain general information and effectively communicate with all levels of employees.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
Salary:$55,110 - $81,930
