General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Laser Technician to join our team located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains systems; implements modifications and engineering changes in the assembly installation, and operation of systems.
  • Run tests or fault diagnostics on equipment to locate and address a problem, order parts if needed, and replace or repair parts.
  • Submit Various reports and speak with members from the organization including engineers, project managers, programmers and other technicians.
  • Fabricate various types of harnesses, panels, and cables, printed circuit boards and related assemblies.
  • Prepare electronic components based on approved bill-of-materials for assembly and soldering.
  • Perform final test, mechanical adjustments, and inspection of equipment prior to shipment to customer.
  • Test performance of electromechanical assemblies, using test instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, frequency counters, etc.
  • Read schematics, diagrams and technical orders to determine methods and sequence of assembly.
  • Align, fit, and assemble component parts using hand and power tools, fixtures, templates and microscopes.
  • Install electrical and electronic parts and hardware in housing and assemblies using soldering equipment and hand tools while recording test results and organizing documentation of analysis.
  • Maintain developmental laser/optical laboratory and supports duties such as cleaning and organizing hardware.
  • Execute well-defined laser/optical test activities utilizing common laser test equipment.
  • Support the build and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies for developmental laser systems.
  • Build and maintains supporting equipment necessary for the operation of large scale laser systems, including chillers, power supplies, flow systems and interlocks.
  • Skilled in pipe fitting and tube bending. Bends and forms piping to meet Engineering drawings. Familiar with Swagelok and Hydra Flow Fittings is a must.
  • Operates equipment to perform tests, troubleshooting and repair of systems.
  • Performs experiment, test or assembly based on sketches, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Fabricates, assembles, modifies, and installs laboratory equipment, experimental apparatus, or commercial hardware of moderate complexity.
  • Records and reports experimental or test data, observing data for anomalies, preparing summaries of data via written tabulations, charts, graphs, and reports as necessary.
  • May provide technical assistance to lower level technicians in work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with five or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • US Citizenship is required,
  • Maintains systems; implements modifications and engineering changes in the assembly installation, and operation of systems.
  • Proficient with Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Maintain developmental laser/optical laboratory and supports duties such as cleaning and organizing hardware.
  • Execute well-defined laser/optical test activities utilizing common laser test equipment.
  • Support the build and integration of opto-mechanical assemblies for developmental laser systems.
  • Build and maintains supporting equipment necessary for the operation of large scale laser systems, including chillers, power supplies, flow systems and interlocks.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot PC Boards.
