Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

This position is responsible for managing the coordination and administration of assigned configuration
management activities relative to planning, identification, control, status accounting, and validation and audits during the entire product lifecycle of GA-EMS systems in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements. Establishes procedures for, and implements the introduction of changes to engineering documents for assigned program. Oversees the performance, cost, and schedule of configuration reviews and analyses of release engineering change control activities. Ensures customer support requirements and objectives are achieved within budget and on schedule. May represent the organization as a primary contact, and therefore must frequently and effectively communicate and coordinate with senior management for organizational support.

  • Provide functional management leadership, plans, and establishes standard configuration processes and tools per EIA-649 and MIL-HDBK-61 industry standards and documented best practices.
  • Provide hands-on support as configuration manager for assigned programs.
  • Monitors all configuration activities for compliance with standard processes.
  • Coordinates configuration activities for assigned projects, including policies and procedures that conform to commercial and Military Standards and Program requirements.
  • Identifies and escalates configuration issues and provides leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying configuration tools and documentation generating tools.
  • Leads progress planning and review sessions to discuss costs, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Researches and integrates automated configuration reports and tools.
  • Contributes to the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of configuration contract(s).
  • Manages and actively participates in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to ensure the availability of the required professional talent.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions: Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree and eleven or more years of progressive configuration management experience in an engineering environment with at least five of those years managing configuration processes to industry standards for system configuration management.
  • May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must be able to follow, status and communicate management direction
  • Must demonstrate a detailed expertise and application of configuration principles, concepts, tools and practices.
  • Must possess comprehensive project management and leadership skills to include organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines.
  • Must be able to resolve complex management and configuration management problems and serve as spokesperson on configuration issues.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with others.
  • Hands-on knowledge of PLM tools – Windchill preferred.
  • Must be customer-focused, demonstrate high initiative, perform effectively in a team environment, and be able to work extended hours, and travel as required.
