Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for a ML Autonomy Architect in Poway, CA. The Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence Solutions Software group is charted to establish an autonomy ecosystem that enables rapid development and deployment of software skills on unmanned aircraft to help accelerate kill chain closure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work on architecture, design, and development of autonomous flight, sensor planning, and control utilizing AI techniques.
  • Develops and maintain software stack for autonomy
  • Experience in developing software system solutions to meet edge-processing requirements.
  • Develops and communicates highly complex descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive insights/algorithms
  • Participate in and coordinate the establishment of design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
  • Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance to ensure software stack development meets deadlines and goals
  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
  • Interact with internal and external representatives at various levels concerning resolution of technical and scheduling issues. Act as primary contact for engineering activities.
  • Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing software solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Applies deep learning technologies to give computers the capability to visualize, learn and respond to highly complex situations.
  • In both theoretical development environments and specific product design, implementation and improvement environments, uses highly complex programming language and technologies to translate algorithms and technical specifications into code.
  • Working with interdisciplinary integration teams to operationalize autonomy and CI/CD deployment infrastructure for future aircraft
  • Adapts machine learning to areas such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics and other products that allow users to have an interactive experience. 8. Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. 9. Performs other duties as assigned. 10.Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors masters degree or PhD in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive machine learning experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent machine learning engineer experience in lieu of education.
  • Expert understanding of autonomous systems which includes the software stack, architecture, design, algorithms, testing and verification
  • Expert knowledge of C++ used in autonomous systems
  • Expert knowledge of DevSecOps practices
  • Experience in developing fully autonomous systems, software stacks, deployments in real world applications. (ADAS, Drones, Robotics, Etc. preferred)
  • Experience in developing and leading scalable software architectures from scratch.
  • Experience in development and deploying Machine Learning/Deep Learning solutions.
  • Have a track record in being a change agent to drive autonomy solutions in the one or more industries.
  • Understanding and continuous learning of industry regulations and standards
  • Experience in optimizing AI models to meet edge processing requirements.
  • Technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
