Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced UAS Integration and Test engineer at our Huntsville location Army Engineering and the MQ-1C Gray Eagle program. Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems in the testing and integration of new and emerging technologies for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform System Test & Qualification Engineering activities on UAS programs with an emphasis on testing and integrating new payloads and weapons systems. Under minimal supervision, will guide the completion of test and evaluation of both small and large-scale programs and determine and develop approaches to test new capabilities and functionality.
- Duties to include system-level Test & Evaluation, Qualification, Verification, and Validation of hardware and software with emphasis placed on deriving & tracking test requirements; generation of system level Test Plans and Procedures; conducting SIL, Ground, and Flight testing; providing accurate and detailed reports of findings and results; and participating at internal and customer technical design and test reviews.
- Will be required to act as Test Director for ground and flight tests, to include providing ground and flight crew direction/leadership during tests, ensure the safe and efficient execution of ground and flight tests, and represent GA-ASI to multiple customer entities during those tests.
- Emphasis will be placed on system integration and coordinating/conducting ground and flight testing at GA-ASI Flight Test Facilities in California and at other US Government sites around the country.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
- Previous flight test engineer with a qualification to perform tests for a military organization including prior Department of Defense (DoD) Developmental Test (DT) or Operational Test (OT) experience is highly desired.
- Experience as a test conductor, test director, or test pilot/navigator for a Combined Test Force (CTF) or Integrated Test Force (ITF) is desired.
- A background in / experience with system-level safety decision-making and risk assessment is desired.
- Must understand engineering concepts, principles, codes and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
- Must be able to understand and apply new concepts quickly in an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level, or with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
- Must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
