Candidates from mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering backgrounds must know the fundamentals of engineering system developments, requirements, testing, and integration before getting to the final stages of customer interface and project management.

Job Summary General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Aide III to join our Forensics Products and High-G Components engineering design departments located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Under engineering management and direction, this position is responsible for assembly of specialized imaging system (SIS) products and applying innovative approaches to help resolve mechanical design problems for imaging systems, projectiles, satellites, missiles, and/or acoustic sensor subsystems with specific focus on hardware prototyping, assembly, and testing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primarily responsible for assembly and testing of Specialized Imaging System (SIS) products.
- Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for providing technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, and compiles technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Manipulates and may produce engineering documentation, reports and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Acts as interface between engineering, on-site machine shop and MasterCam programming for Computer Numeric Control (CNC) equipment.
- Act as primary operator for on-site air cannon test equipment.
- Develops and analyzes a variety of documentation and reports as required.
- Conducts tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Essential Functions:
- Assembles Specialized Imaging System products according to established Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWIs).
- Operates on-site air cannon test equipment according to local test and safety procedures.
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team engaged in the design, analysis, documentation, and prototyping of aerospace and/or commercial electronic subsystems.
- Performs design trade studies and analysis to determine the best approach to meet competing demands of performance, cost, and schedule.
- Works on assembly of prototype and pre-production hardware, troubleshooting or failure analysis, test procedure creation, and testing.
- Documents test and verification activities at the system and/or subsystem level.
- Participates in reviews and/or provide technical analysis and commentary on the system and engineering. specification, schematic, and/or verification phases of development.
- Consults with engineers and program teams charged with sustaining engineering activities in order to ensure continuity of assembly/testing activities or customer commitments.
- Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, and compiles technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
- Manipulates and may produce engineering documentation, reports, and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires an associate's degree in engineering or related technical field and three years of related experience. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- The ability to grasp new concepts quickly and work with minimal supervision
- The ability to read, interpret, manipulate, and design blueprints, drawings, and other engineering documentation
- Strong organization skills
- The ability to identify issues, interpret data, and present findings
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to accurately document, report, assess situations and make judgements, and
- Good knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential
- Ability to Obtain and Maintain DOD Secret Clearance is Required
