Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We are looking for a Airframe Design Supervisor. With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution to advanced technical engineering problem (s). May function in an advisory or project leadership role providing direction to experienced professional staff. Formulates plans, typically long term, for solution(s) development, documentation, and deployment, as well as meeting various compliance, reporting, and safety standards. Evaluates the integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment; and ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates completed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead a design team of approximately 3-5 engineers to help sustain our production line, provide Engineering approval on airframe changes, as well as lead development efforts to minimize cost, improve design-for-manufacturing, and mitigate non-conformances.
  • We are looking for a technical lead to own development of primary and secondary aircraft structural parts, assemblies, and installations using sheet metal, billet metallic and/or composite materials for new aircraft designs and/or modifications to existing aircraft.
  • Coordinate with the Program, Project, Manufacturing, Quality, Stress, and other departments as required to mature projects from concept to production and through the production revision process.
  • Work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, and other technical disciplines to independently prepare/status and/or lead the preparation of engineering design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages.
  • Assist management with tactical execution of all department activities including managing, mentoring, developing, and training.
  • Work with management to define consistent performance expectations/assessment factors & compensation strategy that contribute to the development of a high performance culture; engage section managers in the execution of performance management & compensation strategy to ensure consistency across the department.
  • The position is located in California and will require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites. This position can be filled at a higher or lower grade based on qualifications listed below.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Proven experience designing composite or metal aircraft or spacecraft structures.
  • Proven track record of bringing airframe, spacecraft or automotive structures into manufactured products.
  • Experience with fast paced aircraft design and product sustainment is preferred.
  • Ability to document, trade, and communicate pro/cons of structural designs based on performance/DFM/DFC is preferred.
  • Proficiency with CREO and NX CAD Modeling and drawing or MBD is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required.

Salary:$116,480 - $208,505
